Our Inquiry Unit is called Past, Present and Future. As part of this, we are looking at Communication and how we communicated over time.
Mrs Harding brought in some old phones she had at home.
She brought in a very old telephone that you have to turn a dial to ring the number you would like.
Mrs Harding dialled the number and Daniel had a chat on the phone.
Mrs Harding also brought in her tiny little old Nokia phone which had buttons you had to press to dial. You could only call or text on this phone....no internet!
Mrs Harding also had a pebble phone that flipped open to show us.
There were walkie talkies too that people could use to talk to each other from far away.
Tohu and Mrs Harding had a chat together!
Ask your grandparents how they communicated with whanau when they were young and see if it has changed compared to now.
Gosh haven't phones changed over the years! From the turn a dial to ring the number you would like to push button phones. I can remember the huge mobile phones too. We called them brick phones. They were quite heavy!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a lot of reminising today, Mrs Burge! I remember having a black telephone with a dial, and having to check that our neighbours weren't already talking on the party-line, our conversations weren't very private!
