Communication Twins

Within our Inquiry topic of Communication we have been practicing how to communicate clearly with each other.

We had a go at sitting back to back with a buddy and giving them instructions to follow. We called this Communication Twins.

We used coloured rods and simple pictures which one person described to their buddy. The buddy then had to follow the instructions on how to create the same image without seeing it.

When we had compared images we had a chat about whether our communication was clear enough and also how we could improve.

It was lots of fun!

Writing a Postcard

As part of our Inquiry we decided to write a postcard to a friend.

Our postcards are handing in our classroom so we can read them.

Did you know that writing is a way of communicating with other people?

You could send a postcard or a letter to a friend to communicate with them too.

Our first Google Meet Video Call

Yay! We had our first Google Meet Video Call at 10am this morning. We had around 10 kiddies on there and so many children were keen to share.

Jordan, Daniel, Gabby and Hannah were first up and once they shared their news, there were so many others who were confident enough to talk.

Hannah shared a game and Mrs Burge did too. She has played Trouble every day with one of her daughters and has lost almost every game!

Miss Robertson and Mrs Burge weren't quick enough to grab a photo of the screen with everybody on to add here but we still wanted to say a big 'Well done' to everyone who joined and shared in the session. Thank you to the parents who made this happen.

This was just session 1 and it was a huge success. Imagine how good we will be by Friday!!!

Welcome to Tuesday 5th April

Ata Marie from Miss Robertson

We have our daily Google Meets starting today and through till Friday at 10am and 2pm each day.

Mrs Burge or Miss Robertson will email your parents with a code 10 minutes before each Google Meet session. Click on the link and it will automatically take you to the Meet session.

Sharing news today:
10am - Jordan, Daniel, Gabby and Hannah
2pm - Olivia F, Olivia A and Max

We can't wait to see you all!

Self Portraits

Over the past few weeks we have been working hard to paint self-portraits.

Don't we look beautiful.

Cheryl, Lucas & Olivia F

Gabby, Jordan & William

Ali, Hazel & Hunter

Vida, Olivia A & Caleb

Hannah

Max, Kyan & Harry

We still have a couple who were away and didn't get finished but if you want to have a closer look, just look up when you are hanging your bags on the coat hooks in the corridor and you will see all of our beautiful faces.

Painting Portraits

We have started painting portraits of ourselves!
Jordan and Hunter carefully start by painting the shape of their heads.
Hazel blocks out the colour of her face using careful painting strokes.

Ali and Hannah carefully select and mix our "people paint" to suit their skin shade.

Writing

On Tuesday we did Writing for the very first time.

We worked with Mrs Burge and used the butterfly cards to find words and letters to make a simple sentence.

We found the words 'I can' on the butterfly card then sounded out the next word 'fs' for flowers etc.

We are looking forward to the next time we write.

Fun Friday

Jordan and Cheryl delivered the ice block orders to the office.

Ali, Lucas and William made some amazing robots from the construction toys!

Harry and Olivia F had fun playing with the dinosaurs.

Dean made Mrs Burge lots of food to eat!

We had ice blocks too! Yummy!

We had such an awesome time in the pool!

We practiced some races ready for our Koru Swimming Carnival!

Fridays are the best days!

Koru Whanau Assembly Celebrations

Look who received a certificate in assembly today...

Jordan and Cheryl were so very proud of themselves!

Room 9a also won the assembly award!
Woo hoo! We deserved it!

Monday, 3 February 2020

Welcome to Room 9a - Day 1 February 3rd 2020!

We had lots of fun in Room 9a today.
First of all we sang some songs. We really enjoyed Tufa Tafa! That is a class favourite.
We walked around the school to find the important things like the toilets, the field and the boat playground.

We got to know all of the Year 1 and 2 teachers during our Koru Whanau assembly in the Koru courtyard.

We did the letter s in phonics and made some awesome sun art.

We have Mrs Burge and Miss Robertson as our teachers.

Miss Moa is a 3rd Year student teacher who will be with us for 3 weeks, then 2 more weeks in June, then 5 weeks in September!

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful teachers. Mr Smith worked with us today too!

Look at how proud we are to get a First Day at Sunnyhills School certificate!
