Gabby's holiday

So far, Gabby has been learning her alphabet and drawing on whiteboards as well as riding her bike and scooter. She has also had lots of downtime playing Minecraft with her brother.

Yesterday Gabby and her brother made boats and floated them in their pool. Here is a photo of Gabby's boat. She had a faster boat than her brother.

Buddy Class

Today we had some time with our Buddy Class.

We have a year 3 and year 6 buddy to make friends with.

Today they read a book to us from our library corner.

Harry and his buddies read a book about Dinosaurs! Harry's favourite!

We all had a great time and made lots of new friends.

Germs!

On Wednesday Mrs Harding taught us about germs and how they get into our bodies...

We did an experiement using water, glitter and soap...

We used the glitter to act as the germs in water.
When we put our finger in the water the glitter stuck to our finger!!

When we put soap on our finger and tried again look what happens to the glitter!!! (germs)

We are learning how important it is to keep clean and wash our hands regularly.

Hoo-ray for Harry!

This week Harry completed his first full day at school.

Well done Harry!!

Welcome to our new friends!

We welcomed three new students into Room 9a on Monday!

Well done to Zoe for completing her very first day!

Well done to Grace for completing her very first day at school!

We coloured in a picture of the Earth.

Then we did some writing about the Earth.

Mrs Burge and Miss Robertson have put our Earth Writing up in the classroom.

Come in and see what we have done.

Over the past few weeks we have been working hard to paint self-portraits.

Don't we look beautiful.

Cheryl, Lucas & Olivia F

Gabby, Jordan & William

Ali, Hazel & Hunter

Vida, Olivia A & Caleb

Hannah

Max, Kyan & Harry

We still have a couple who were away and didn't get finished but if you want to have a closer look, just look up when you are hanging your bags on the coat hooks in the corridor and you will see all of our beautiful faces.

Frozen Fridays

We LOVE Frozen Fridays!!

Miss White, Miss Robertson and Mrs Burge enjoyed an ice-block on Friday too!

Look at how happy we all are cooling down with our ice blocks.

We will miss the warm weather and the cool ice blocks next term.

Woo hoo for ice block Fridays!

Buddy Class

Each year a younger class buddies up with an older class and they get together once a week for Buddy Class.

This year Room 9 and 9a will have two buddy classes!
We will have Room 13 which is a Year 3 class with Miss Bycroft as the teacher and Room 1 which is a Year 6 class with Mrs Croll as the teacher.

On Friday we got together and introduced ourselves to our brand new buddies.

We have a Year 6, a Year 3 and a Year 1 as three buddies together.

Once Miss Robertson's class fills up we might have to have some groups with two Year 1 children in them.

We introduced ourselves.

We drew pictures together.

We sang Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi together.
It was so cool getting to know each other.

We can't wait to have our big buddies supporting us for events like the PTA TRYathlon and the Big Walk which is coming up over the next couple of weeks!

Kevin the Kiwi!

Kevin the Kiwi starts his home visits!!

Lucky Hunter is the first person in Room 9a to take Kevin home (apart from Mrs Burge of course!!)

I wonder what Hunter and Kevin will get up to?!

L is for Ladybug!

L is for Ladybug! Lots and lots of ladybugs!

Miss Robertson put up all our lovely ladybugs that we did with Miss Moa. We used our hands to make the wings!

We are bucket fillers!!!

In Room 9a we have been working hard at filling each others bucket!

When we do the tight things in Room 9a, Mrs Burge, Miss Robertson or Mrs Harding give us a pom pom to put in our bucket.

On Thursday our buckets were full of pom poms! We were allowed to have a few minutes on the Boat Playground to celebrate!

Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday we had our Swimming Carnival!

We have been practising very hard for the past few weeks  getting in and out of the pool and moving safely through the water.

We waited patiently for the loud clappers before we ran through the water.

We even pushed the ball with our nose without using our hands!!!

We had such a fun time in the pool and loved having our family watching and cheering us all on!

Reading Tasks

We have been busy learning how to do lots of reading activities in between reading to the teacher in Room 9a.

Lucas and Vida finished all the spelling puzzels all by themselves! They did a fantastic job!

Koru Whanau Assembly Certificate Recipients

This week we had a Koru Whanau Assembly.

Room 22 and Room 10 presented an item which were awesome.

Hannah and Caleb received a certificate. They were VERY proud of themselves!
Well done Hannah and Caleb. Miss Robertson and Mrs Burge were very proud too.

Te Reo Maori

On Tuesday we went to see Mrs Harding in the Music Room for a Te Reo Maori Lesson.

Mrs Harding taught us some Te Reo Maori greetings and we sang a waiata.

Mrs Harding also taught us how to say the colours in Te Reo Maori. We sang the Ma is white song too.

After that we played a fun game which helped us to learn the colours in Te Reo Maori in a fun and interesting way.
Thanks Mrs Harding - you always make us want to learn more and more!

Welcome to Daniel

We welcomed Daniel into Room 9a on Tuesday.

We are looking forward to getting to know you Daniel.
It is good to see that you have made some friends already.

Monday 2 March 2020

Welcome Hazel!

Today we welcomed Hazel to our class!
Well done on completing your very first day at school, we are so happy to have you in Room 9a.

Painting Portraits

We have started painting portraits of ourselves!
Jordan and Hunter carefully start by painting the shape of their heads.
Hazel blocks out the colour of her face using careful painting strokes.

Ali and Hannah carefully select and mix our "people paint" to suit their skin shade.

Mindfullness

Last Wednesday we practised mindfullness with Mrs Harding.
We put bean bags on our stomach and watched them go up and down with our breaths while listening to soothing instructions.

This was a good way for us to calm down and relax after a busy lunchtime outside.
