Fun with Hunter

Hunter was having fun while singing the Jolly Phonics song!

Hunter and his family managed a bike ride along Little Bucklands beach where Hunter asked the question "Why do we have high and low tide?" Maybe you could find that out for yourselves and comment below.

Hunter also noticed a floating crane whilst on his bike ride.

Hunter finished the day by playing a game of Monopoly, using Maths to count, add, and subtract!

Which games have you played as a family?

Hunter is enthusiastic about learning

How enthusiastic is Hunter about learning? He is so clever at using his robot arms to sound out CVC words.

You will know how to spell all of your words by the time we are back to school Hunter!

I love the vehicle you have made too!

You have been very busy!

On Friday Eddie and Hunter were awarded Principal's Awards in assembly for displaying Growth, our GEMS focus for Term 3.

Both Eddie and Hunter received these certificates for pushing themselves in their writing. It's fantastic to see what you can achieve when you challenge yourself!

Well done done boys!

Kevin the Kiwi!

Kevin the Kiwi starts his home visits!!

Lucky Hunter is the first person in Room 9a to take Kevin home (apart from Mrs Burge of course!!)

I wonder what Hunter and Kevin will get up to?!

Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday we had our Swimming Carnival!

We have been practising very hard for the past few weeks  getting in and out of the pool and moving safely through the water.

We waited patiently for the loud clappers before we ran through the water.

We even pushed the ball with our nose without using our hands!!!

We had such a fun time in the pool and loved having our family watching and cheering us all on!

Painting Portraits

We have started painting portraits of ourselves!
Jordan and Hunter carefully start by painting the shape of their heads.
Hazel blocks out the colour of her face using careful painting strokes.

Ali and Hannah carefully select and mix our "people paint" to suit their skin shade.

Writing

On Tuesday we did Writing for the very first time.

We worked with Mrs Burge and used the butterfly cards to find words and letters to make a simple sentence.

We found the words 'I can' on the butterfly card then sounded out the next word 'fs' for flowers etc.

We are looking forward to the next time we write.

Phonics

We worked on the letter s in phonics.

Look at how clever we are at writing the letter s.

Monday, 3 February 2020

Welcome to Room 9a - Day 1 February 3rd 2020!

We had lots of fun in Room 9a today.
First of all we sang some songs. We really enjoyed Tufa Tafa! That is a class favourite.
We walked around the school to find the important things like the toilets, the field and the boat playground.

We got to know all of the Year 1 and 2 teachers during our Koru Whanau assembly in the Koru courtyard.

We did the letter s in phonics and made some awesome sun art.

We have Mrs Burge and Miss Robertson as our teachers.

Miss Moa is a 3rd Year student teacher who will be with us for 3 weeks, then 2 more weeks in June, then 5 weeks in September!

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful teachers. Mr Smith worked with us today too!

Look at how proud we are to get a First Day at Sunnyhills School certificate!
